In your opinion, what are some of the toughest jobs?

It can be in terms of hard physical labour, time commitment, emotional stress...whatever.
I'm a nurse with Hospice, so it's pretty emotional, & there are also the physical & intellectual aspects.
My Love is a restaurant manager, so he deals with the long, unpredictable hours, having to always please the public while still over-seeing employees, $$, inventory, etc.
We were just discussing different jobs we've had over the years...
What do you think are some tough jobs?

(Nasty, crude comments not accepted, here...)

Rawbert...bless you. I was on the receiving end of that once.

garbage collector

butcher

surgeon

RN.......

a mom....you don't get paid, 24/7, lots of different little jobs all mixed in

call canter. hands fu%$ing down its the worst job on the face of the earth. talk about an early grave.....a job like that will send you to an early grave.

One word: Infantry.

Repo man, I've done it.

anything mike row from "dirty jobs" does

Hospice nurse has got to be tough.
Also, EMS and police see a lot of sick things. A lot of cops become alcoholics and end up committing suicide.

Air traffic controller is one of the worst.

deer skinner and coal miner

soldier.trust me i know.

Policeman
Firefighters
Nurses
Construction workers

The military guy who has to write the families that their son/daughter is dead.

I had to do that once.

Sewer Treatment Plant cleaner. I never did this, but seen it on Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe.

Working in a nursing home would be pretty difficult if you ask me.

Farmers.
They never get a day off.
And IF they do, they have to make sure someone responsible and trustworthy is taking care of the farm.
Some small, family farms hardly ever get days off because they can't afford to pay someone to watch their farm when they leave.
Also, milk prices and other things can stress out farmers.
Its a crazy, stressful job - and noone really appreciates all they do for us.

Thanks for the food, all you Farmers out there!

Well, any public service job, like Police, Firefighter, EMT/Paramedics, Military, Construction, Lab work......
Anything you see on "Dirty Jobs!"

I was a former Military wife... that was really tough, and I was in public service for a while (EMT), and now I do lab work - I'm stuck in a hot lab all day using a microscope and braving the heat and cold - trying to match deadlines and adjust samples - but I honestly do love it!
Cheers!
Oh! Also..... motherhood!!!! I'm 26 weeks pregnant with a boy (Gabriel)! Yay! I'm about to get a crash course!

Police officer and fireman. High stress, not very good pay, constant scrutiny by the public and media (in the case of police officer) and the added bonus that you can die at any time. Come to think of it, add soldier to that list, under the same conditions as police officer.

Coal miners. What a dreadful job that must be and the fact that for many it's the only job they can get in their area makes it that much worse, IMO.

I think your job (nurse) is also extremely difficult. They are the best caregivers and get the least amount of respect because their hours aren't billable like a doctors.

However, dentists have the highest suicide rate so there has got to be some sort of extreme stress in that job that I am just not aware of.

toughest jobs..police officier..my cousin is a police and he got shot in the arm, because he was running after gangsters..

Military... nothin like possibly being blown up every day

anything that has to do with risking your life or something that you need to have a lot of guts to do. such as the military, hospital workers (nurses, doctors, surgeons, etc.) fire fighters, police officers, things like that.

I think teachers have a really difficult job on so many different levels. They are paid poorly and have to deal with unruly, rude brats!!

Your job definitely tops the list in terms of hard jobs-- not just physically, but emotionally as well. I think anyone who deals with human beings and death has to be a strong person, and not everyone is cut out to deal with the situations you must deal with on a daily basis.

Other tough jobs-- anyone who has to put his or her life on the line for another life... firefighters, police, etc. My hubby's a cop-- lots of stress, crappy pay, and people who disrespect him on a daily basis. But he loves to help people, so he continues to do his job, regardless.

Mine. How can you be expected to treat people when you are crazier than they are? Huh??

I spent almost 7 years in the Fur Industry and trust me I can tell you horror stories.

I would have to go with Technoligy Service Restitution Lead when a major outage occurs.

The fires burn brightly in this job when poop hits the fan so to speak.
