Medical Question Help please?

I just posted another ? but this one is more described. My nana has had a stroke and cancer since the begining of the year. She is diabetic. Her hospice nurse and family doctor has said to lower her insulin and to have her sugar go to 400. The ? is, does that sound like they are trying to kill her or are suppose to do that from the cancer?

Is she having trouble eating? I know a lot of people with cancer do. They may be concerned that with her not eating and taking insulin her sugar might go too low which can be more dangerous than it going too high. Ask why they are doing this. It's been my experience that Hospice workers are very understanding and willing to help the family in any way possible. Hugs to you and your Nana.

if your nana doesn't get better try...

That's kind of odd. A glucose level of 400 isn't lethal, but high blood sugar levels can encourage cancer cell growth. On the other hand, body functions need blood sugar to be carried out, and that may be impeded somehow. Either you or your parents (sorry, but I don't know your age, please don't be offended) need to call the doctor's office and find out exactly why they're changing her levels, for your own peace of mind if nothing else. I'm sure they're doing what needs to be done, but you have every right to know what treatment your loved one is receiving. I wish you all the best.

Blessings

It is very unusual to try to raise some ones blood sugar to 400. That level will not kill her in the short term but I would ask more questions or get a second opinion. My experience with hospice nurses has been very good. They generally try to advocate for patient comfort and some of the measures may shorten life span in the interest of less pain and discomfort.

Blood sugar levels above 200 are not healthy for anyone. Glucose levels above 200 cause high blood pressure (especially in the eyes and feet), elevated bacterial infections, suppressed immune system, chronic infections in the extremities (hands, feet) and damage to internal soft tissues due to higher lymphatic pressures. The body will try to correct the high glucose level by flooding the extremities with lymph to dilute the glucose and biophysical toxins that build up due to cellular respiration.

In other words elevated glucose levels over a long term always, ALWAYS, lead to multiple health issues related to a depressed immune system. Get grams to a specialist...namely an endocrinologist (cancer doctor) and/or a gerontologist (old folks doctor).

not healthy for anyones suger to be in the 400 s yhat does not sound right .
