Could this be cancer or just an infection?

This week my mom told me that my grandma lost 2 cathaders (spelling?) worth of blood in 30 mins time.
Now she has a hospice nurse take care of her.
but she could not determine if this was a really bad infection (the worst she has ever seen) or cancer?!
what do you think?!
serious answers only please!

ok so the NURSE so the one that said this.
and she has been on hospice for 2 years now.
her and my grandfather both.
but they have a live in nurse.

Usually hospice is only called in when there is nothing more that can be done other than to comfort the patient.

It's hard to tell from your description. What's bleeding and how long has it been bleeding? how old is your grandma? do you have cancer running in your family?

Sometimes questions like this should be asked to a doctor. Otherwise you will always be wondering if people gave you right answer.

If she is on hospice, then whatever condition she has, they have guessed that she probably has about 6 months or less to live. Some people outlive the guesstimate.

If she only has about 6 months or less to live, then it is really academic whether she has cancer or an infection, because it would seem that she has another diagnosis that put her on hospice in the first place.

I think you mean 2 pints of blood, not 2 catheters (that is usually for urine drainage).Unless you mean there was blood in the catheter bag and there was 2 bags full of blood. That would usually be more than just an bladder infection. Could be a cancerous tumor in the bladder or something else. The hospice doctor should be notified immediately if this is what is happening.
