Why does hospice just kill old people with over medication/ sedation? |
I have caught my grandmothers hospice nurses giving he meds that don't belong together and adding to he dosage with out first checking her levels. They are playing God and Iam sick and tired of it. What can I do for her how can I protect her from then? Well if you are sure (or even suspect) abuse, then report the nurses, of course. There are governing agencies that handle such complaints and believe me they don't take them lightly. You need to report the hospice nurse to her boss. I don't think shes doing things right. I would even request a different nurse. If she's in hospice, doesn't that mean she's already on her death bed? R u sure they aren't giving her pain meds to make her more comfortable? If u really have a problem, then u need to talk to the supervisor about ur grandmothers care. Sorry to hear about ur grandmother. Best wishes to u and ur family. IF YOU FEEL THIS IS GOING ON YOU NEED TO REPORT IT TO THE CENTER THAT IS PROVIDING THE CARE. THERE COULD BE A CHANCE THE DOCTOR HAS CHANGED THE DOSAGE AND NOT MADE YOU AWARE OF IT. I HAVE SEEN THIS HAPPEN. YOU NEED TO REPORT IT NOW AND ASK FOR HER MEDICAL RECORDS TO SEE IF THEY ARE DOSING HER WRONG. THEN YOU TAKE ACTION! IF IT IS TRUE DO NOT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT. I would report the nurse and talk to the manager about this. Hospices are supposed to wait and make you comfortable until you die, not help you die! Be sure to check with the Dr. who prescribed the meds, if you have a HIPA form he/she can tell you how much, for what, and any contraindications. It usually takes a doctors' order for Hospice to take over, but they still have to refer to the md when it comes to administering drugs. I'm sorry you are going through a tough time with your grandma. You should call the agency they work for and tell a suprvisor or call her DR and tell them what you saw them doing. Did u ask the hospice nurse what she was doing! I would confront the nurse!Tell her u dont like what she is doing and want an xplination! Good luck and remember...Time will heal your broken heart! I do not know your situation, but as a Hospice nurse, I am appalled. (at that behavior, not your perception.) There is a large misconception about hospice and medications. There really are valid reasons to give Morphine and other medications in the last days and hours. You have every right to ask questions of the nurse and the doctors, but please be advised to not approach them defensively. Ensure an open dialogue by letting them know that you are uncomfortable and just want to understand why x is being done. God bless you and I hope you find a resolution.... |
