Why did he say it might be a thyroid problem?

went to the cardiologist today and um the nurse checked my pulse and said it was going fast. Then again I was late to the appointment and was running because I couldnt find it so that could be it.

However the cardiologist then came in and used his stethoscope(sp?) I think thats it and listened around and he said my heart rate was going fast even at rest.

He then like told me to hold my breath in and out and stuff while he used the scope listening thingy around me.

He said it looks like I might have a "underactive thyroid" that could be causing symptoms of palpitations and that I might have to take thyroid medication if thats the cause. I dunno he said my thyroid looked active. How did he know? i dunno i guess he checked my throat area? I dunno I remember in human anatomy I think the thyroid gland can control the heart area.

THEN he orders the nurse to come in and she hooks me up to a EKG and she said my heart rate was a little high.

So he then orders me to take these 2 pills daily to see if my heart race goes down. I have these things hooked up to me (heart monitor) and I have to push a button if I feel a palpitation which rarely is happening now and is starting to fade. It was more noticable days ago in my legs and stomach area.

So tomorrow I have to come back and the nurse will read off the heart monitor.

Then from there I have to go get "bloodwork" done to check my cholesterol and tyroid hormonal levels.
After that they might do an ultrasound of my heart.

Now when I come to think of it ..it might be my thyroid. It could explain why my hair used to be super thick and now its like fine textured. I thought it was just because I was getting older. Im 25 yrs old. However age might not be the case. Im always cold especially during the winter. My hands are cold. My skin itches at times. I feel tired at times. They say depression goes along with having an underactive or overactive thyroid. Omg maybe thats the reason why i feel depressed at times? I remember I called off since (first time ever) the beginning of January because I felt so weak, fatigued and depressed. My hormone levels might be messed up also. I felt like I was high like for an hour last night and had energy. After an hour it went away and I felt normal . Then I woke up today and Im tired as hell. I just want to go to bed. I have mood swings at times and its mostly days before my period. I hate to say this and I havent told anyone this or wrote about it in my journal but I have even thought about suicide even though I wouldnt kill myself. I rarely think about suicide but these past 3 months it has increased to almost daily. Its like Im obsessed even when Im in a decent mood. If my thyroid is the case they say it can be managed by medication.

Good luck, it does sound like you might have thyroid issues. It sounds like you have a good doctor and he's testing you correctly. Let us know how it comes out. I have a friend who had thyroid cancer and she is doing just great now 5 years later. I'm not saying that is what is going on with you, but just to reassure you that the medications do work.

if it is you`re thyriod then be prepared because if they put you on medication it will be for the rest of you`re life and that is not a load of bull people who start on medication for thyriod have to take the medication everyday for the rest of thier lives i don`t know why the doctor will tell you better than me as to the reason why.

i hope for you`re sake it is not you`re thyriod best of luck with you`re results
