LPN's ....are they respected?

or does everyoen think they are glorified nurses aid?

I think that the latter is more than likely true. My aunt used to be one and they called them Little Pissy Nurses at the hospital she worked at. You can make a good living being on e, but even better if you put the extra two years in to be an RN.

LPN's are very valuable to the nursing community. Different areas of medical care value LPN's more than others but generaly they are important.

It is a very difficult course and they are very smart and capable women and I for one think they are very respected.
Even nurses Aid work is hard and very emotionally draining.
I think they should all be respected.

Respected. And well trained.

unfortuantlely not as much as they should be.

LPNs are caught between NAs and RNs. They get respect as long as its earned. I am a male RN, but I have to tell you, I am seriously getting tired of ALL the whiny nurses where I work. I had to deal with these babies ever since I was inducted in nursing school. The real reason there is a "nursing shortage" is because nobody wants to work med/surg, all the ladies say its too hard.

It depends on the facility and the people who work there.

There are great LPNs that are very knowledgable and valuable to their co-workers and the facility in which they work.

There are other LPNs who really do function at the level of NAs and simply burden their facility financially (making the money of an LPN without doing the work of one) and frustrating their coworkers - the RNs who have to pick up the slack.

My hospital has "phased out" LPNs and now only employs RNs. That is becoming very common in the area where I live. LPNs are left working in out-patient clinics and nursing homes.

They are very well respected, they even more than the RN's are in the thick of thing's. They give the Pt.s their RX, and all their treatments. They work almost as hard as the HCT's.

It depends where you work. At my hospital, they are respected as much as the RN's, but a lot of them are lazy, wanting the CNA's to do all the work, and quick to say "I can't do that" when it comes to nursing.

Some hospitals are phasing out LPN's and some are actually requiring a BSN of all the RN's.

IMHO, it is much better to put in the extra time to get your RN.

Yes they're still respected!!

No they are or should be respected. Just like a nurses aid should be.. We work hard too..

they are respected. they have a tuff job.

/i/ would /say /it depends/ on/ where/ they work/ myself/ i /have respect/ because/ not everyone /can tolerate /that type/ of work /it/ takes/ a special person
