Is there a code of ethics for an LPN and?

If so, where can I find it? Also, can a nurse place a video surveillance camera in a patients room - or does the authorization need to come from the person or the persons guardians?

Thanks for your time!!!!!!!

There are Standards Of Care but each state has their own. The Joint Commision for Accreditation of Hospitals Organization (JCAHO) has in the past few years said that video cameras in rooms (including ICU) are an invasion of privacy and if the hospital wants to be accredited then they cannot have cameras in rooms. Our hospital used to have them in the ICU's and it was nice to have the monitor tech watch the cameras as well for those patients who are confused to alert us when they are trying to get out of the bed. So, since they have "out-lawed" the cameras, the use of restraints has increased which is very unfortunate, but necessary for patient safety.

LPN standards of practice are different in each state. I suggest you Google State Board of Nursing+(your state).
A video surveillance camera cannot be used without the patient's/guardian's knowledge and consent. The exception to this is usually when the patient is considered a danger to themselves or others. Most hospitals have their own rules regarding this.

the code of ethics should be the same as for an r.n. as for the surveilance, if this is a public hospital setting then i don't believe one could get away with it. however, if there are suspicions you could speak to your superviser. now if your speaking of say a nursing home setting and you're worried about care, you could put in a camera but do it on the sly.
