Falsely accursed by a nursing home resident.?

I'm a CNA and falsely accursed of being disrespectful to an alert resident (male) in the work place. Can I charge him with anything or take him to court? Or family member.

I can help you with this, as I am a Supervisor in a Nursing Home.

As you know, Residents of a nursing home have the very same rights as any other U.S. Citizen.

Unfortunately, because of their confinement to the facility, in many cases, the lucid and cognitive RESIDENTS harbor a great deal of anger. This stems from their feelings of abandonment by family and friends, the inability to do for themselves and an overall feeling of inadequacy.

As a supervisor, I have been the target of this 'anger' many times, but have learned to let it roll off my back. I also have learned to make sure I do not put myself in a compromising position where a resident can accuse me of any kind of abuse.

If you are being FALSELY accused of abuse by a resident, the first thing you should do is sit down with your supervisor and clear the air. Ask that you be placed on another unit (if possible) away from that resident for a while.

As far as taking him to court?.... don't go there. You won't win ANYTHING, and you will be pegged as a troublemaker.

Finally, monitor your tone and demeanor when addressing residents in the future. If you are percieved as being loud, boisterous or even a sharp talker, you will experience this again and again.

Good luck.

How were you harmed? Did you lose your job? Get fined?

If you cannot prove you were harmed, you have nothing but hurt feelings. Besides, did they say disrespectful or cite specific examples? "Disrespect" to you is not the same as it is to me.

What would charge him with? More less a family member. If this is threatening your job, then you need to discuss the situation surrounding the accusation with your superior. I'm sorry, but it sounds to me as if you are just "sue happy" and are looking for a reason.
