Is there an operation that Ortho vets can do on a dog with h.d. to stop the pain?

I have an 9yr old rottie with arthritis and H.D who still walks mim.4 klms every day and swims at least twice weekly for 1/2 hr without very little effort and keeps up to my younger male rottie on the walks I have been told by a vet nurse that I can have her nerve in the joint cut to stop any pain that she shows when they play or she jumps up on my bed and in the back of my ute. She has a funny little skip when she walks but nothing more. Has anyone had this op done as I would love to know more. Didog.

In Fresno CA, they are having GREAT success with acupuncture therapy for dogs with HD, and arthritis.. You may have a veterinary acupuncturist in your area..

To my displeasure, there probably is something like that. Not sure why people spend so much money on their pets... Maybe I should pose that as a question. Hey, thanks for the question idea!

There are several different surgical procedures that can be done on a dog with Hip dysplasia; depending on the severity. At 9 years old, I'd really consider carefully any surgery you may be considering putting her through in light of the fact that she actually seems to be getting around quite nicely!
Supplement with glucosamine and chondroitin can help immensely with her stiffness and pain and there are also medications that can help such as rimadyl and ascriptin but these dont come without side effects to talk to your vet to weigh the pros and cons carefully. I had a 226 pound malamute have a TPO surgery...it helped him immensely after a failed ACL surgery left his him lame and his hips gave out. He was only 2 years old so the benefits of surgery far outweighed any risks. Good luck and enjoy your dog...seniors are the best!
