Veterinarians and Nurses!!!! HELP?

I'm very confused about when a cat/kitten can start getting pregnant...My kitten is 4 months old and she is going into heat along with my male kittens who are the same age and is mounting her...Can she get pregnant this young??? If not, when??? I spoke 2 a nurse and he said about 8 months old is when they become fertile but i've read on the internet different ages...some say 6-8 months and others say 5 months so i am very confused...i have 3 male kittens starting their heating periods and 1 female kitten who is also starting her heating period...please i need HELP...whats right and whats misleading

A female cat can get pregnant when she begins her heat cycles, similar to humans. 8 months is the average age a kitten has her first heat, that's probably why they said this age. If you are worried she will get pregnant, take her to get fixed immediately. If you think it is possible she is pregnant, take her to the vet for an examination. The ONLY way to find if she is pregnant until she into the middle to last stages(when her belly gets bigger) is to have a vet check her out. Due to the number of male vs females in your home, it is highly possible she may become pregnant.
Again, your female kitten can become pregnant when she begins her heat cycles. So if you don't want any more kittens, get her fixed asap.

Males don't go into heat- they are ready all the time once they get their sexual characteristics- 5 mos is a bit young- it is possible and not an exact science-D

A female can definately get pregnant that young. I work at a shelter and we regularly get females younger than 6 months old coming in that are pregnant.

In Australia, it is becoming common practise to desex animals from 8 weeks of age.

You should get all your animals desexed, as the females may get pregnant. The males tend to develop bad habits the longer you leave them desexed. They will also get very aggressive, especially in regards to mating. A male will attack a female to get what they want, regardless of if the female is desexed or not.

Going into heat can already happen at the age of 4-5 months. Only females go into heat, your male cats respond to the heating period or the behaviour of the females. Please have all your cats neutered. Many vets neuter already kittens at the age of a few weeks, with excellent results and no problems.
