10 week old puppy still nursing? |
we have a 10 week old male purebred golden retrever puppy, and there is a female golden ritrever, yellow lab mix down the street. when ever they see eachother my dog trys to nurse off of her. she dosent snap at him. she dosent even move away. she is not pregnant and has no puppys of her own what is going on? This is a normal reaction. All female dogs, have a maternal instinct breeded into him. They will accept puppies that aren't theirs. They just have a maternal instinct just like when women sometimes might care for a baby that is not theirs. the puppy just wants some comfort. nursing on his mummy was his best comfort. when he see the other dog it reminds him of his mummy. maybe go another way for a walk until he forgets. Awww thats so cute! I want to get a pup, but I already have two dogs. Anywho thats just his natural instincts and the female dog is letting him so its ok. Just don't turn your back to them in case she snaps. When my dog had puppies they use to chase after my male dog and try to nurse, and when they were ready to leave a girl wanted to see how her dog and one of the pups would get along, and all of them started to try to drink of her, I thinks it's find maybe she thinks its there mom. o wow u should of stoped feeding him at 4 weeks but not get puppy food and put warn water in it and much it up a lil then feed it to him |
