Help! My kitten is doing things I don't understand!?

My 2 month old siames kitten still tries to nurse on occation. the odd thing is he is trying to nurse from the DOG! and a MALE dog at that! the dog just puts up with him but I need to know if this is normal and/or what i should do about it! It is cute though..this tiny white kitten curled up with a HUGE german shpard/doberman cross.

Also he does not want me to be out of his sight..he cries terribly if I move even just to another room where he can't see me..he follows me everywhere...I thought cats were suppose to be indepenant...I like the fact he wants to be near me but its a problem with I want to go anywhere...he will sit by the door and cry the whole time I am gone even with other people in the house.

Poor little tyke. He was probably taken from his mother and siblings way too soon. Siamese are a bred with tendencies to have a strong attachment to their owners.

hes still a baby. it needs time. after he gets a little older give him his independence. he will get used to the house and realize that he needs to learn to be on his own.

If it is about 8 weeks old, it probably misses its mom. If it has bonded with you it will, for a while, cry for you to come back. This is normal. It will go away. As for the nursing from a dog, that is normal too. I know a cat who has done this. It's nothing to worry about. As long as the dog isnt getting upset about it. Much luck with your kitten.

He's young enough that he is probably still looking for his mother. Don't worry about the dog: It sounds like your dog has decided to be your kitten's buddy.

Now, sometimes cats can become like shadows: Always there even if they're not asking for attention.

He'll grow out of the crying in time.

Hey! This is completly ok for a while, i mean ur kitten is quite young it does this because it misses nursing from its mother and tries to do the same thing with ur shepard dog. it might of been separted from its mother early and is depressed from that, also if it gets serious or continues seek pro help of go to ur local vet.
bout the following u around thing.. that is NOT OK.. then agian its small and things its ur mother/ misses its mother and needs comfort.
try to get tips online for that or again see ur vet if it continues hope i helped =)

For one, an 8-week-old kitten is pretty young. It probably will try to nurse as long as your dog tolerates it. I took a photo years ago of a female dog, with puppies, that was wet nursing a kitten whose mother had died. In the case of your kitty, it's probably a comfort thing more than a food issue.

As to the cat crying, I have a couple of suggestions: 1) Get another kitten, so the two of them can interact and have fun (terrorize the house, in other words) while you're not there. And 2) set up a small space in your house for the kitten, complete with food, water, cat box, etc. Be sure to offer some soft bedding, maybe a small pillow, and something that makes noise, like a keywound alarm clock. (No need to have the alarm go off, the thing is to offer a little noise for your kitty so he doesn't feel so lonely.)

cats are creatures of nurture, and nature. they need to learn to be independant, and if they're always catered to, they get used to it. i have a cat that knows that right before i go to bed, i give him a treat, i've only been doing this for a few weeks, because my schedule changed. well, after the first week or so, he started expecting it. i walk into the bedroom, and he comes over and meows and purrs because he's excited. so, its just a matter of the cat learning to deal with you, and how you treat it. cats think that they're in charge, so dont let them rule your life.

Don't worry your kitty will stop the nursing in time. He's very young and all babies want to nurse and they cry, too. It's very natural. Maybe putting him on your lap at 10 minute intervals (throughout the day) and stroking him while you watch t.v. will satisfy his loneliness. He should get better about being left alone when he becomes accustomed to his surroundings. I know how annoying that can be when you want to cuddle and comfort them but you need to go about your routine. As cute as they are as babies, thank goodness they grow up!
