My cat has abandonment issues? |
My cat is about 7 months old now, he's a male, and when he has about 5,6 weeks old his mother was hit by a car & killed and that was how we got him. Now he's always trying to nurse off of our older male cat. He does it constantly through out the day. Kittens need to nurse for at least 6 weeks to 8 weeks old. awwww... poor kitty. Don't worry too much about the nursing behavior. This usually gets less and less until it stops altogether as the cat matures. That your older male is "batting" the kitten away when he tries to nurse is ver normal. Even momma cats do that when their kittens get big already and they know that they can already fend for themselves. The nursing behavior is an attempt by the young cat to recapture those kitten feelings of comfort and security when he was nursing at his momma's bely. ALL young cats do this - some just knead while others also suck. Not to worry, K? he just needs time to heal, give him some extra love to help him through this |
