I got a kitten from the local shelter, he is very non-active.? |
I'm just wondering if he was weaned to early, probably not by choice. Can I give him kitten formula? He does eat kitten chow, but he tried to nurse off my adult male cat. He doesn't play and he is very small, shelter says he is about 3 months old. I don't think he's even that old. What do I do? Hi there...if the adoption was recently, he may be still adjusting to his new home. Some kittens will sleep to deal with their stresses and when curious enough will begin to venture and later become playful. Average 3 month young male kitten will weigh between 2-4 pounds. He may have been weaned early if he was taken from his mother before 4 weeks. The shelter should know this and help you confirm the details. Age is determined by several factors besides weight early on...milk teeth, eye colour, ears pricked upwards and more (see here for more details: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view.php/5529... ). Consider offering him a little mixture of wet food with dry and if likes the kitten formula thats alright to offer him as well. he was definetly weaned to early I think what I would do is get that little baby to your local vet. Have him or her do a normal check up to make sure he's in good health. They would be the ones to give you the very best advice on what to feed it and answer all of your questions. Give him mostly wet food, and some of the kitty kibble. Make sure you but kitten food and he eats it - it has lots of extra proteins and fats necessary for kitten growth. What does he weigh? It's about a pound a month at the beginning of a kitten's life. Even if he is only two pounds he would have been old enough to be weaned. He would probably appreciate some good canned meat - kittens much prefer that to dry food. I don't think the special kitten milk should be necessary. Cat's have different personalities, and you may have just gotten a cat that is lazy. i just adopted 2 kittens from a shelter they seemed very lazy at first but i did a little research and found out that kittens may sleep anywhere from 16-20 hours a day! My kittens tend to play at night while i'm trying to sleep and sleep all day while i'm at work. But yeah I would definetly get him to the vet for a check-up he could have some underlying illness that may need treatment. Good Luck :) Give the kitten canned food mixed with canned or powdered kitten milk. Stir together let the kitten lap it up. |
