Ihave thoughts about becoming a nurse that cares for baies when there born what is the name for that position?

I love babies there cute an di would love to become anurse what would tha tposition be called an ddoes i tpay well. I am a male to s owould they let m edo that. i know its akward for a guy to become something like that.

Yes, men can do that work - I did it.

The nurse in delivery is a 'Labor and Delivery Nurse' and the nurse in the nursery is a 'Newborn Nursery Nurse' Some nurseries prefer men - we don't get attached to the babies like the women do.

There are also specialties dealing with serious issues with babies such as the 'Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse'

The only time being a male in this area of nursing is an issue is if you work in a doctor's office (OB/GYN) and the doctor is a male also.

All of these are specialty areas that require training in addition to your regular nursing course.

You would want to be a nurse in the neo-natal unit.

In order to become a nurse, you have to rotate through all the units. So you will be able to determine which you like best.

Pediatrics is the children's unit. They don't keep the new borns there.

You would have to become a Registered Nurse and work in a mother baby unit and yes they would let even if you are a guy. Pay for RN's is pretty good. like 20 or so an hour

Then there are pediatric nurses who work with tots & children.
Registered nurses are paid very well & get more $ the more education you have...IE: Masters, various certifications, etc.

Yes, I think it would be fine for you to work in that field. You can call a Nursing School or Dept. of Nursing at a hospital & ask to have an informational interview to ask questions you have.
