What were these pains?

I am nearly 20 weeks pregnant. A couple of nights ago I was in extreme pain across my belly and my lower back. Myself and my partner were very worried so I called the local hospital and spoke to a male nurse. He didnt seem too concerned , he advised me to take paracaetamol and go to bed. I followed his advice and sure enough it worked! I have been fine since and the baby seems ok as he or she is moving around alot still. I have a scan next week but I can't help wondering what could have caused the pain? any suggestions? Im confused! Thanks.

your body is going through a lot of changes. being pregnant is basically as much work on your body as training for a marathon. when you have weird pains, call the dr. its ok to be nervous or worried about odds pains. dont be afraid to call your dr. when it happens. sounds like you did the right thing by talking to the nurse. ask your dr. when you go in for the ultrasound. only he/she can tell you for sure what is going on. every woman's body acts differently during pregnancy.

May have been gas pains, maybe just cramps.

It could be liagments stretching for the stomach ache or constipation. This has happened to me as well. Back ache again is unfortunately part of pregnancy especially lower back ache. I'm not a doctor just suggesting what could be going on and I'm glad you rang the local hospital to get advice. Congratulations on your pregnancy
