Where do you draw the line...?

... when it comes to a male nurse caring for you? For example, at stating IVs, stating a catheter or being your labor and delivery nurse?

I don't care whether it's a man or a woman, just as long as the person is knowledgeable and does the job right! Does it really matter?

I had a male obgyn, but he didn't make it to the delivery, so it was just me, my husband, and the attending nurse (who happened to be a woman..) during labour and delivery of my first son.

Where you draw the line depends on you. I have had male gynocologists before who have actually been good ones Ofcourse you feel a little weird or uncomfortable at first. But if you are uncomfortable having a male delivery nurse or gyno then tell your doctor's office. Make sure you tell them that it has nothing to do with that particular Dr or nurse. Let them know that your preference is female. Good luck!

Trust me. Male nurses no more look at your "parts" than the domino's delivery guy eats pizza when he gets home from work. I work with several males and after a while every single person's parts are just that. Anatomy. It sounds harsh, but just think, if you are hurting, if you are sick and the only person there is a nurse who happens to be a man, are you gonna say "NO! I want a female?" They went to nursing school just like the girls did. Besides, they won't remember you after you are discharged from the hospital...

unless your like a 10+ i doubt a male doctor is getting turned on looking at your parts he does it all day everyday the world is pretty sick now a days but not quite that sick

If the person is a professional, gender has no bearing. There is no line that needs to be drawn, they are just as capable of doing a good job. There are good male nurses/doctors, there are good female nurses/doctors... just the same as there are bad ones, with gender having nothing to do with it.

I have had male nurses care for me, in fact, a guy I graduated with from high school has cared for me in the ER many times now. I have no problem with it. He's awesome at what he does. He's both a nurse and a paramedic for our local hospital.
