My bad morphine experience in hospital?

After a major car crash I was admitted to hospital with six broken ribs and and a busted lung. I was in much pain.

I was given morphine for the pain. Within a few hours I was convinced that I was no longer in hospital and that the staff were foreign agents trying to kill me!!!

This halucination seemed absolutely real. I was terrified and even physicaly assaulted a female nurse who I gave a black eye to even though several male nurses were holding me down. Even so I managed to break free and make a run for the nearest window in order to escape (9 floors up!!!) Eventualy I was sedated.

Next day I could still remember clearly my visual and mental aberation although I realised this was purely an halucination. Dispite my assault on the nurse, this was never mentioned. I bumped into her a couple of days later (with black eye)

My questions are 1) Is this a normal reaction to morphine? 2) is this anything like class-A drug reaction? 3) Why was I not prosectuted for the assault?

PS I bought the nurse chocks an a bunch of flowers

You werent prosecuted probably because it was a psychiatric nurse you had assulted (even a general nurse) rarely takes assults further than their own management, which is sad because it means that we almost expect to go into work and take this abuse from people who may not have had a reaction to medication, as you did! obviously you are allergic to morphine and should have this written clearly on your records!

I have never heard that before. I had Morphine and it just made me itch REALLY BAD!!

1) Different people react differently to different drugs. There is no way of telling, unless you know you're allergic to something, the way your brain will react to it, without prior experience.

2) This could be considered a class-A drug reaction, therefore you should do your best to make sure you are never administered morphine again, if you can help it.

3) You were never prosecuted for the assault because legally, they gave you something that made you act this way. If they had sued you, you could have turned around and sued them for malpractice!

I had a similar experience, again, after a major car crash. After 3 days of really weird hallucinations I asked to come off morphine, as I was losing it in a very unpleasant way.
I didn't get violent, or try the outside route to the ground floor -- just lost track of reality. To think people take that stuff for FUN !!!

I work in a nursing home, and several of my patients have been (or are) on morphine. I've never been assaulted (once they were on the morphine).

Everybody will respond differently to different medications. I just took 50mg of tramadol -- I want to collapse -- I have six patients who take it, and remain perfectly awake.

You probably weren't prosecuted for assault because the reaction was due to a resonable fear caused by a medication that was administered under physician supervision and order -- and, nurses expect to have the hell beat out of them from time to time -- it keeps us on our feet.

I recently visited my sister after a massive op on her foot(who was on morphine)
I was stunned at what i saw she was clawing her face to bits and chewing her tongue, and crying saying she was dying
At least you don't think these things anymore that would be worring
I'm sure the nurse has had worst
