Is it right that my boss at work wrote up a male nurse aide because he hugged his male partner? |
The partner brought this man his luch and then hugged him and left. It was night shift and no family members were around to be offended. This young man did not harm anyone although I am Catholic I find this was wrong of her.Legally in Texas can she do this? Is it right. No. Can he do it. Yes. There are not laws for gays. Federal does provide laws, but if it is a small company they can get away with it. If they are a large company they can get away with it. No one will enforce it because they don't want to take the risk. The world we live in right now is not gay friendly and it is not right. This is why we fight for civil and equal rights. It is not ok. I think that's twisted, but I'm not familiar with the draconian Texan laws. i am not pro gay, but that is pathetic, more people should hug. Maybe hugging is simply not allowed? I don't know about the legality of it or what your work rules are. But if he wouldn't do the same thing to a straight couple, then I would certainly raise issue with it. I don't know if she can legally do that, but if I were him, I'd already have a lawyer. sneak into the reckords and spiff around the wite-out over everything she rote....XP I hope not, if you look at his panic cultures it is normal for men to do this, that could be a form of discrimination I hate your avatar, it makes you look all sad idk the south is ****** up it is unprofessional. a write up is pretty harsh though. I don't know if the boss's actions were legal, but they certainly weren't ethical. There is nothing offensive about the act of hugging another person. He should fight it. That is wrong of the boss to write him up. The person did nothing wrong. The boss can get in trouble for this. I dont think he should have been written up but if there is a rule against hugging then it is justified. It all depends on the established work place policies. If employees are prohibited all displays of affection than she is justified. sounds a lil odd to me would he have wrote up him if he had hugged a female partner? If he treats everyone the same no matter the sex then no. I think this is a case of discrimination. If it had been a wife hugging hubby nothing probably would have happened. Someone should see a lawyer. I am with you; I think that the manager acted way r\to harsh. That would be the same as someone hugging their mom, husband, friend, or cousin who had brought them lunch. I fail to see any harm. I think the nurse should file harrasment charges. I think its bull, but check out this website it say it is. I mean it was just a hug. someone has there head up there you know what. you knwo what im saying? If he violated written company policy then he is open to disciplinary action no matter the time of day or who was there to see. My boss writes down everything I say. I don't care. I've gone through 4 bosses in 17 years. It depends on whether she could write up a straight person for hugging someone. If she can't write up a heterosexual couple for hugging, she shouldn't write up this couple. It was just a hug! I don't know the legalities in Texas, but it is was a very unfair thing to do. I hope he can get it overturned. Gay or straight it doesn't matter, if someone is offended by the actions of others it is considered harassment and they have the right to complain. I know it is lame but that is the law. If it was as you say just a simple hug. No way nothing wrong with that at all. If they can't get it thrown out then legal action is an option. As far as people being around that doesn't matter either as far as they knew it could have been his brother hugging him. It is none of their business. That is illegal. He can not do that (he can not write some up for being gay and hugging your partner is not an offense to the company in anyway.) Now that we finally have the EDNA bill passed. That guy needs to file a complaint with the EEOC if the HR dept. refuses to step in and correct this. that was a little much ado about nothing. I suspect your boss is following the strict letter of the law where acceptable workplace behavior is concerned. These days, with so many lawsuits and such sensitivity to any appearance of impropriety, I guess we have to accept that rules are rules and they apply across the board. It's probably prudent to practice a 'no touching' style at work in light of the times. I'm not certain your boss was being anti-gay or making any moral or political statement by her over-zealous reporting -- I suspect she could have pretended not to see the quick peck under the circumstances. Shame on her for being ridiculously fastidious! Please don't let this cause bad blood between all of you though -- it's harmful for everyone's health to let this stuff eat at you in the workplace. It's easier to just go along to get along sometimes -- just not worth the aggravation to try to 'educate' or correct ignorance! If this sort of thing is routine, your only sensible recourse is to look for other employment because the truth is when you have authority figures who are socially backward, it's an uphill, constant battle. Good luck -- don't let the idiots get you down! Oh geez. What a reason to get written up. Unfortunately, I think it may depend on the rules of the workplace establishment. If it's against company policy to show affection publicly during work hours, then it ought to be applied to everyone. I hope your friend files a complaint or rebuttal or something with the human resources department. Texas? They are lucky they didn't both get a lethal injection. ...no she can not...and if she does so...she will have to have spies reporting on all the hugs given through out who establishment...male, female, alike...it's not really a gender issue, but it was "not" inappropriate behavior...it was totally innocent...print this out and show him |
