Would you rather have a Male or Female Nurse??? |
I am a guy seriously concidering becoming a male nurse. I like the though of helping others and have worked in the medical field in the past delivering equipment. However, am wondering how I would be percieved as a guy being a nurse. It wouldn't matter either way to me! I am a current nursing student, and my boyfriend is an RN. He's great at his job and makes really good money, with great hours. there's so much room to advance, too. We're way past the days where nurses wear dresses and little white hats... i don't think there are many people out there (other than the elderly, who probably will think you're a doctor anyway) who would be uncomfortable with a male nurse. Also, many doctors i know say they would've become a nurse if they could do it all over again, because the starting pay is actually higher, and you don't have all the school debt/malpractice insurance. If it's what you want to do, do it! Good luck. =) It is your education and training that makes you in the medical field, not your sex. A compassionate person that loves there job is all so comforting. I work with both and all gets along well. Report It i missed answering this, but i think that both men and women can be nurses, and that there are just some different circumstances that i would like a female or male nurse. good luck! Report It well all this really depends on what ur doing. for instance, i would prefer a female nurse if it was something private to be looked at and fingered. but a male nurse would be fine if i were getting a shot or something. Report It go for it!! personally, i would prefer a female nurse, but don't let me stop you. male nurses are beginning to show up more and more frequently. i want to go into the medical field myself (future veterinarian). even though i would be uncomfortable with a male nurse, i support male nurses. anyway, think about all the guys who are uncomfortable with a female nurse. do it for them. Depends on what's wrong with me only thing that matters if u can take care of the person both I dont mind a guy nures if it just for a shot or something like that. If its something were I have to change into a gown or have x-ray or its a girl thing then I like having a girl nurse just cuz she gets it. But Im fine with guy nurses most of the time. Last time i was in the er for the ful i had a guy nurse a hot one at that and I didnt mind then again he was giving me pain pill. :) Personally I would want a female, but that is just me. I suppose it depends on what's wrong, or even what they were doing... Sponge bath? Female, definitely. Taking a temp. I don't care. Actually... most things I don't care. My last hospital visit, I had both male and female nurses. I only had to slap the male nurse once... and that was only because he stuck his thermometer in my ear while I was half asleep... :D Depends on what for. I am female and I would probably--honestly--feel more comfortable with a female nurse, if both the male and female nurse in this hypothetical were equally qualified in all other aspects. As long as you act the professional that you want to be then there shouldn't be a problem. I wasn't into having a male nurse until I had major back surgery. Then I was told that I could n't move myself at all for 24 hours. The two male nurses they sent in to me sat down and told me that the reason that they were there was because they were much stronger than the female ones and the Doctor was worried that I would move if it felt like the people who were dealing with me weren't strong and I'd jerk as they were moving me. The Doctor also came and talked to me about the nurses and the head female nurse said she would always be with them when they dealt with me. They said and did everything they could to reassure me that them being male didn't have anything to do with the quality of my care. They were so nice and professional. As they helped me they would talk to me about my family or the kind of hobbies I like---just anything to put me at ease. They really helped me when I was at my most vulnerable and very ill. So go for it if helping people is what you want to do. Be a professional at all times. Good Luck |
