Im six weeks pregnant and bleeding- should I still be working? |
I am six weeks pregnant and have been bleeding for 4 days now. The blood started off brown, then red and now its brown again.I had a scan that showed a sac and a yolk but the fetus couldnt be seen. I was told that this could be because I am so early on in my pregnancy, therfore the scan is to be repeated in 2 weeks time.I was told that I may be bleeding from an area near the sac. My doctors said that I shouldnt be working but the nurse at the early pregnancy unit said that I can continue working and if I am going to miscarry I will whatever I do. I am having some pain and feel uncomfortable.Bearing in mind I work on a neonatal unit and work 14 hour shifts, I think I will find it difficult to work knowing that I am bleeding and may be miscarrying.Am I being soft?Should i go back to work before I know if I have miscarried or not.I also have an hours drive each way to work. Or should I just get on with it and return to work?Would appreciate any advice, thanks if the doctor said you shouldn't be working, you shouldn't be working. Your health and the health of the baby are more important, do what the doctor advises...........i don't agree with what the nurse told you,i'm a nurse myself, and would never advise a patient to go against doctors orders........if you're still not sure, see another doctor, get a second opinion if it makes you feel better to not work that way. GO TO THE ER AND FIND SOMEONE WHO WILL GIVE YOU DEFINITE ANSWERS Do what you are most comfortable with. I think that if I were in that situation, I would rest at home, but that is what I would do. Only you can choose what you will do. why are you listening to a nurse over the instructions of your doctor??? I was on bed rest with a subchorionic hematoma when I was pregnant with #2. At the time, I heard and read about the 2 schools of thought regarding staying home from work and resting. The one school is your nurse's: nothing will prevent a miscarriage. Your doctor seems to belong to the other school. I found out I was pregnant and I was spotting it was brown then I started heavily bleeding and I went to the ER I was told not to work to be on complete bed rest. That means not getting out of bed except a quick trip to the bathroom and then right back laying down. You shouldn't risk it. If it is a finacial thing and you must go to work then I would be if you don't have to the you shouldn't especially if the doctor said not to the doctor knows more than the nurse. I miscarried a couple of days later after being put on bed rest and usually the rule of thumb is if your going to miscarry your going to and theres nothing you can do about it but I wouldn't risk it. I was fixing to go on my honeymoon when I found out I was pregnant and they told me to continue to fly and have fun because my hcg levels were going down and I was having a miscarriage and could do nothing about it. They were really rude. I was only 18 and it seemed like they judged me and my baby. Please do whatever your comfortable with. YO WAKE UP CALL, listen to your doctor not the nurse, if you want to protect your pg you have to make then best decision and stop working. Leave on the family medical leave act most employers have this for those who have been with the company a year or longer and your allowed up to 12 weeks unpaid or if you have not been there a year yet then go on a personal leave, you have 12 weeks with that one as well, with both your doctor can tell your HR human resources office that you medically need this and then your employer will put you on temp disability that pays you while your out. i know this because i have just returned to my work after being out for 10 weeks for a major medical reason and they paid me temp disability to help supplement my income while i was out. |
