NAS (neonatal abstinence syndrom) Need help!?

Does anyone have any experience with a baby born with NAS? My sister had a baby on December 28, and she was fine for the first few days. Once they got her home (she's been home for several days now) she started experiencing a few of the symptoms of NAS. My sister was taking methadone when she became pregnant unexpectedly. Her high risk doctors said it would be better for her to continue taking it rather than to be weaned off of it. She gradually got her dose lowered, but was still taking it when the baby was born. The baby is only 10 days old now, and has diarrhea, stuffy nose, inconsolable crying (when she's awake, she's screaming). My sister called the nurse on call at her pediatrician's office and she said it sounded normal to her, she doesn't have a fever and she's eating, so she's fine. All the pediatricians/doctors who worked with the baby at the hospital said she's fine (they all know my sister's history). Can anyone share any experiences with this?

My sister is convinced the baby has a cold, but how can a 10 day old infant get a cold?? They haven't even taken her out in public yet, and neither she nor her husband are sick. They're also compulsive hand washers, etc.

Its possible that what your sister is experiecing with her child is withdrawal symptoms from the metadone she was taking while pregnant. I can't believe that the doctor that she is taking her child to hasnt had her come in due to the symptoms that you just described because if it is withdrawal that the baby is having this is serious stuff that could actually kill the baby (not trying to scare you, just giving the facts).
