A lot of hospitals have a volunteer program where you can be in the viewing room and just hold babies (maybe their mother is sick or unresponsive or contemplating adoption etc.)...Anyway..... you'd have a chance to be in there and see what it's really like to do that job. Do it regularly for enough time to see if it quickly becomes boring/routine or captivates you. Make sure that you see if there's stuff (by watching the nurses, doctors) that would gross you out to do (give babies intravenous injections, changing diapers etc). Get a good idea before going to school. I say this because my sister-in-law attended 2-3 years of nursing school and worked hard on the academic courses only to find that she was unable to give injections, cause pain, endure stench etc. She was devastated.

Perhaps you can arrange to shadow a nurse in that position. Then you'd get an idea of what she actually does in a day. My sister had a similar experience, but trained as a Certified Medical Technician. She worked for a doctor for less than 2 weeks. I went to real estate school, got my license and then realized the first day of the company's training that I did NOT want to do that.
