I received a phone call from my doctors nurse saying that my cholesterol level was a little high..?

Told me to come in to the office to pick up a lipid diet menu.
What if any are syptoms of having high cholesterol ?

no symptomes in the begining,and even in most cases later on.decrease fat intake,change to olive oil,eat garlic,little more exercises.dont worry....everything will be normal as long as you do the above.

There are no symptoms. Some people have it naturally form genetics, some get it from the foods weeat. That are high in cholesteral.

If it is just a little high you can control it through diet, and excercise. If you did the bllod test without fasting, try fasting for 12 hours and repeat the teat. Make sure you stay away form cholesteral high foods for at least 48 hours

There aren't any noticeable symptoms that you'd equate to having high cholesterol. Some people may feel occasionally light headed but that wouldn't necessarily tip you off to the condition. The main thing is that it was found before any other serious complications arose and most of all it's controllable. Good luck

Well, how unprofessional of your doctor to have the nurse call. I would want to know numbers before I commented on them, but there are essentially NO symptoms of high cholesterol until too late.

I am also of the opinion that the jury is still out on lowering a slightly high cholesterol level via drug use. The evidence for that practice just seems a little sketchy to me. There are still large parts of the puzzle regarding atherosclerosis, factors that are not well understood. You need to evaluate a "slightly" elevated cholesterol number in context of all other things, including family history, other risk factors, weight, activity levels, age, blood pressure, etc.

I have also seen doctors who will charge you and your insurance company for you coming in and then the doctor giving you bad advice (one of whom I reported, and he is no longer practicing, thank you very much). It also bothers me that a doctor is essentially treating a "number" only.

This computer/internet thing is a powerful tool. Use it to educate yourself thoroughly regarding this subject. Take that information and what the doctor says and come to a conclusion for YOU.

Mine was more than a little elevated, and I changed my diet somewhat, increased my activity and exercise, quit the stressful job, and guess what, got it into the "slightly elevated" range, and am not pursuing further goals in that regard, and not about to take any of their lipid lowering meds.
