When you call your pediatrician's office, do you usually get a nurse or does your dr call you back??

when i call the pediatrician's office i get forwarded to a nurse's voicemail and then she will call me back. however, i asked for the dr to call me back this time since it is concerning something we discussed at my son's last well baby visit.

if the dr doesn't call me back then i am switching pediatrians, but i was just wondering what your dr does.

thanks!

If the Dr specifically asked you to call him/her then when you finally do talk to the nurse request that you be connected or have the dr. return your call, make sure you tell the nurse that the Dr. said to call him/her. IF the dr. did NOT tell you to call him specifically then you address your question and concerns to the nurse who will look up your child's file and proceed whereever necessary, whether it is to refer you to a specialist or make an appt, or just answer questions for you. There is no need to switch dr's just because the dr him/herself doesn't call you back. It is the nurses job to address the patients and solve any questions prior to involving the dr. Believe me the nurses are who you want to speak with, there are occasions when the dr needs to be addressed also, but for the most part, the nurses will be able to help you and direct you to who what, etc.. that may need to be done

Without knowing how big your 3 month old actually is, I couldn't tell you what the correct dosage is which you use according to age and weight. My dr, gaive me a dosing chart from the office, of how much and how often to give it to a child, so ask for one, you might be able to find one online also. Report It

At my kids old doctors, we would get a nurses voicemail and they would call us back.

At the new doctor,(we switched), The doctor calls us back.

Well when i first call, they have me talk to a nurse but if it's something else only the doctor knows they'll connnect me to the doctor..But to be perfectly honest i love the nurses at my daughters doctor they seem to know just as much as the doctors and they all have children and have raised them..So sometimes i'm more willing to talk to the nurses...

I have never been able to talk to the dr on the phone. That is very frustrating! I have 3 kids and it has been the same with all 3. I wish I could find another office because it seems like your just a number to them, but I really like the dr I see.

Most offices have the Advise nurse return the call. Even though you asked for the doctor to call you back, you will probably receive a call from the nurse...unfortunately. The thing is, the doctor is so busy that it's hard for them to take every call of every person who wants to talk him. The advise nurse usually calls and if it something that the doctor needs to answer, she will relay the message to the doctor and then call you back with what to do. I know how inconvenient it is...trust me. :( Unfortunately you'll get this at most places unless you stumble upon a really great place.

The only place that I've ever really cared for is my family doctor. I will call and ask for the doctor and they'll typically let me speak to her then. If not, the nurse will answer and let me know she's busy but she'll take a message for her to call back. I know usually the nurses will call and give you lab results unless there's something serious going on. I was just waiting on some standard lab results and it was about 7:45 at night. Her office closes at 4:00 so that was WAY past working hours. She was calling from the office (my actual doctor) to let me know how everything was going and to check on my daughter because she had an ear infection. That is the type of place all places should be, but I know it's not possible.

Good luck!

Usually the nurse will call back unless i specifically ask the Dr. to call. If the Dr. cant take the time to ansswer you question directly when you specificall ask for him then you should probably look into switching.

Dr.'s can call back? I had never heard of this! (sarcasm) My son's Dr. never calls back, it's always a nurse and sometimes I have to call over and over again to get the nurse. I'm trying to find a new Doc before our second baby gets here, but it's so hard to find a good Dr.

Usually a nurse calls. Very rarely, the nurse's have been too busy, and a doctor has called me back when I left a message for a nurse. I think that if you want to speak directly to a doctor to tell the nurse so when she calls you. You may have to wait a while longer, though.

At my doctors office when I call I get the nurse at the receptioist's desk and they triage my daughter(i tell the nurse what is going on with my daughter ) and they talk to the doctor and the nurse calls me back with in an hour or two (if they are busy) to let me know what the doctor suggests or if he wants to see her
