I found a really hard lump, is it cancer!!?

In my vagina on the right side. It feels really hard like a rock under the tissue. I had my doctor check it out when I found it in 2006 and I was pregnant at the time and he didn't want to do anything to it. I also had a nurse practitioner check it when I went in for my post-partum check up and she said it was normal. It doesn't fell normal at all!!! Am I just a victim of lousy HMO managed care?
Should I insist on a biopsy? How do I get these doctors to help me? I don't want to die from cancer!! My mother just died of cancer last year! She was only 47 and I feel like that puts me at a really high risk! Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

It is not painful.

It sounds like a Bartholin's cyst to me:

Relax, vaginal cancer causes a painful lesion on the lining of the mucosa, not a subcutaneous nodule.

See another OB-GYN doctor for an evaluation and peace of mind.

I personally would ask for a second opinion. It's your doctor's job to refer you to someone else when you ask for a second opinion.
Better safe than sorry!

anything you find abnormal is a scary thing. i would go to another dr. and get his opinion. it is your right to know what is causing this. sorry about your mom.

well you should demand to have medical attention...

dont worry about it. if all the doctors have said that its normal, then it is!

give it time, maybe itll go away.
