Would the first prenatal visit be only at 8 weeks? |
I moved to Boston recently so i dont have a primary care physician. I called a OBGYN's office to setup an appointment and they said the first visit will usually be with a Nurse practitioner. And, that they will only see me at 8 weeks. I asked them whether the pregnancy shouldn't be confirmed by a blood test... but they said as long as HPT showed a dark positive it should be fine... They said that they will send me a packet containing prescriptions for prenatal vitamins and a packet containing information about Do's and Don'ts for the first trimester...I was expecting that they would call me in for a blood test and initial check up... She said it was only necessary if i had any problems before... is this normal or should I choose a different doctor? My doctor did the same. Sadly this is because your risk of miscarriage is greatest in the first couple of weeks. Good luck to you. Normal. My doctor wouldn't see me until I was 8-10 weeks either but they didn't send me vitamins or a packet or anything. The same thing happend to me. But it is normal. 8 weeks is about norm for first time visits! If you want to be seen earlier then i would try a different doctor most place will see you about the same time frame tho It's very normal. I guess different places have different rules. I saw a OBGYN as soon as I was 6 weeks so I really don't think it matters as long as you see one as soon as possible. I would call around and view some other places though. I had my first appointment ( to confirm pregnancy) at 4 weeks,my first prenatal at 6 weeks, bloodwork at 8 weeks and next appointmant due at 12 weeks.Everyone I know who is pregnant goes in as soon as they have a positive HPT. The doc likes to see you as early as possible. However I live in Canada, and our health care is different (and free), but it seems to me that the earlier you go the more prenatal care you'll get. |
