Pregnancy after miscarriage? |
I have read a lot of literature online with conflicting information as to how long one must wait to get pregnant again after a miscarriage. Some experts tell couples to go ahead and try immediately, some are more conservative and say wait until you have had at least one period to start trying and others say wait for two cycles (the first period post miscarriage plus one). I feel ready emotionally and physically. I am also 36 and don't want to be too long here. I see no reason why you cant TTC again right away, your miscarriage was natural and uncomplicated. The reason for the ''wait until three months period'' rule for us, to have the body clean itself out and heal properly. If you don't want to wait, no one can obviously stop you but why rush things? There really is no exact time to wait. Some people believe if you wait a little longer that it will get your body healed and ready to go again. Others say that as soon as you are up to it emotionally then you are ready. I have had 2 miscarriages both in 2006. My first one I was 14 weeks so they wanted me to wait 3 months. I was pregnant 4 months later and lost that one at 10 weeks. They wanted me to wait at least 6 months the next time so we were pregnant again after 9 months. I am due next month. I also see no reason why you can't start right away, especially if there was no D&C, and if you are emotionally well-balanced, which you certainly seem to be. I know of several people who have managed to get pregnant immediately and carried to term with no problems (actually, now that I think about it, they seemed to have easier pregnancies than everyone else too!!) so it's certainly possible, but I'm sure the doctors are simply being cautious. I think you can start trying again whenever you feel ready -- and best of luck!!! My doctor said I could try straight away although they prefer you to wait one cycle to be able to date the pregnancy. |

You should have a number of questions on hand (I suggest writing on a piece of paper ready to take notes). To be a well-informed patient, you need -- and have the right -- to know certain things... My doctor did the same. Sadly this is because your risk of miscarriage is greatest in the first couple of weeks. Good luck to you. ...It may be easier, and less confrontational, to write a respectful, yet truthful letter. Explain to him why you prefer to be a nurse practitioner, rather than a doctor.
