Are there any pregnant women, who had to wait till a week or more after their missed period to get a positive?

I am so confused and frustrated. I am 5 days late for AF. I took a pregnancy test on Monday. At first it looked negative but there was this black spot where the positive line would be, I'm not sure how much time had passed before i decided it was negative and put it back in the box, maybe it was like 5 minutes. Later on that day i looked at it again, cause i was curiouse what that black spot was, and it was gone and replaced with a faint line. I don't know if it is a faulty test or what, because every test i have taken since then all w/ first morning urine, has been negative.
I've been so fed up with all this confusion, so i decided to make an appointment to get a blood test taken, well the stupid nurse practitioner, only let me do a pee test in the middle of the day, and it was sure enough negative. Like i didn't already know that it would be. so since it was neg, she wouldn't let me take a blood test.
So as per my question above.

I even told the nurse about the one test that looked positive she said, either your pregnant or you not, and she didn't know much about the over the counter test. It just makes so mad, it's like well then who is she to give a diagnosis if she doesn't know anything?

I had to wait a whole month after my missed period for my HPT to be positive. Talk about frustrating, all the tests were negative leading up to that one. Ask the dr. for a blood test and tell them you've already had the urine test and it's showing up negative. Wait another week and take another test and use your first morning urine and look at it with the time allotted, not 3 hours after....that will be your answer!

How are you feeling? Do you have any symptoms?

ETA: Amanda, based on your symptoms you could be pregnant! Is there another dr's office you can go to. Did you go to your GP? If so, go to your Ob/gyn or vice versa. Go to a dr. you can talk to or maybe give it a week and take another HPT, it might be positive. Keep us posted!

I took 4 Hpt's when I was 2 weeks late and all were negative so I called my doctor to get an appt to figure out what was going on and when I went in they did blood work and told me that I was in fact 6 weeks pregnant. SO urine tests are not always accurate.

i was 16 days late before i got my bfp and that was with a blood test good luck and hang in there it's not over until your AF shows up

some ppl never have a positive i would buy another one or go to the dr and ask the DR for a blood test not the nurse. tell her you want to talk to the DR

I was frustrated as well. I had a feeling I was pregnant and took a test the day after I should have gotten my period, and took a number of tests up to a week later. All tested negative. That whole business of tells you "up to five days before your missed period" has GOT to be a marketing ploy to get women to buy more overpriced tests!

im over a week late on my cycle. i am also on birthcontrol and have never missed a cycle regardless if i was late on pills..i had light spotting the day after i was due for my cycle last week no cramping or nothing though. i took a test on the 27th and the 29th both negative but werent with my first morning urine..took another on the 1st with my first morning urine it was positive a faint blue line showed up, went to the clinic yesterday took another and it was negative..i had a metal taste in my mouth on the 28th dizziness and heartburn on the 1st last night i had acid like burning sensation in my stomach and some slight burping, no sore breasts though. i am also confused. they told me to come back in 2 weeks..by then if i am pregnant i would be 8weeks or so..so i dont know i heard that some women take up to 8weeks to show they are pregnant some take test after test after test then finally get blood test and then it shows up..i think the best thing to do is get a blood test..thats what i think im going to do today..i dont want to sit here and wait..i want to be excited. good luck to you i hope everything works out for the best.

tell me about it I'm 2 months late n it comes out negative so as we speak im in the doctors so well c
