Should I get a different OB/Pregnancy doctor - Read Concerns? |
My sister thinks that I should look into a different OB/pregnancy doctor because she thinks he's too "light on the concerns". But I can't decided. Where I go you see 2 different OB/GYN docs &/or a nurse practitioner, you just get whoever is available, so it's like you have two doctors in one. That doesn't really bother me & I've never felt uncomfortable around any of the doctors. But here is where my concern lies, my doctors office is pretty strict on only getting 1 ultrasound & it's at 20 weeks. At my last visit (17 weeks) my doc told me that he thought I was two weeks less along that what we thought & was questioning my babies due date, he said he thought I was too small to be 17 weeks & he wanted me to have an ultrasound before my next appointement. He was vague & never told me when he wanted me to have it done (what week), so I thought he was going to tell the receptionist, but he didn't. I told her he wanted me to have an ultrasound before my next month check up, she said they don't do them before 20 wks, & the technition was on vacation on my 20th wk, so I have to wait until 21 wks. Shouldn't the doc of made sure I got in sooner or said something? Also, with my first born, I delivered 7 wks early, shouldn't they be monitoring me better? And the night I went into labor, I told the doc that morning at my visit that something wasn't right, I had bad contractions, & had a big snotty discharge, & felt like something wasn't right. He never checked me & just sluffed it off. That night, I went into labor, I was already 4 cm dilated. Are the doctors just common like other docs or do I need to look into getting a different doc? Delivering at 7 weeks early on a previous pregnancy puts you at a higher risk of delivering early again. Your doctor has to know this. I would be a little concerned about the fact that HE isn't that concerned. I waited until my 20th week to have my ultrasound (I wanted a higher percentage rate of them knowing what the gender was). if your having any kind of doubts about your OB GYN see someone else, you should feel comfortble with your doctor at all times, and if you don't know who to go to talk to some friends see what ob gyn they go to or call your insurence company and ask them to send you a list of doctors that they cover, remember you don't need any stress on you and having a doctor thats not fitting your needs is one stress you can do without. good luck with making your choice and congrats on your baby :) The whole story isn't here. I'm wondering what the nurse said. My OB also only does one ultrasound at 20 weeks. I was disappointed, especially when the rest of my pregnant friends were getting ultrasounds @ 8 months. But other than that, I really liked my doctor. I'd express your concerns to the manager of the clinic you go to and if they don't fix it to your satisfaction, then I would switch. Get a new dr. 1 ultrasound through your whole pregancy. No that's not good. Plus the dr. Cant be that good. I had one of those dr's. with my first son and if he didn't come out when he did he would of been dead cause the cord was so wrapped around his neck he got no food or oxygen for like 2 weeks. i'm so greatful for my son. He has 2 stay in the hospital for a week after i went home. Get a new dr. you don't want to jeopridize your child. If you have insurance then most insurance policies only pay for one ultrasound unless there is a problem with the baby. Towards the end of your pregnancy they rotate you among all the doctors because when you deliver the doctor on call is the one that delivers you and if your doctor is not on call you won't get him/her. If you do have concerns about the way the office is ran or the doctors behavior then change doctors. You will have to have your records transferred to your new doctor. This is your baby so if your instincts are telling you that something isn't right then it isn't. You need to remember your paying the doctor, so dont be afraid to tell him your concerns. Anything that bothers you tell him. and demand what ever YOUR needs are in order to satisfy your questions. well if you delivered preterm last time you are high risk and deserve a bit more evaluation usually fundal height is not as accurate until after 24 weeks I think my doctor never even measured me until 30 but maybe he is just eyeballin it ...you need to stick up for you and the baby be blunt they have to listen to you I switched ob's at around 18 weeks or so cuz I had a rude irritating pushy allways in a hurry type of Pric* of a doctor I had him for eight years and he delivered my first but as you grow older you decide how you let people treat you don't let them blow you off !! BTW I'm sure you're little one will be just fine and even if they change the date they need to watch for premature birth as you've had on that way God bless you! If you feel like you should then do it. It's your call on how you feel about it. Having different docs all the time i don't know. With both of mine kids i just had one doc i saw every check up well expect for my second my doc changed just cause the doc i was seeing she was leaving the clinic to go work closer to home so the new doc i had took over till i was due. Girl my dr dose 2 utra sounds to make shore everything is going like it should be. also with this being you 2nd child and you deliving early last time. i hate to say it i agree with your sister find another obgyn.but i would interview them find out how many utra sounds they do and how long the been driving babys. more or less the nurse will know what he likes when, if he is not concerned about things you shoulnt be worried either. Just keep the same ob doctor its hard to find another doctor that will take you on short notice Get a new doctor. oh my yes I think u should go to another ob so they can check u better espesacilly since ur other pregancy. was complecated. I just had my third baby n I was a high risk and had several u/s 1st one was just to check my estemied due date. and one every month after that. |
