Is this Scabies?

My son had a small rash on one leg. It was there ever since we went to a park and he fell and scraped his knee. After 2 weeks, the rash grew, so I took him into the doc. She (I only got to see the nurse practitioner) said it just look like something irriated it. So, I was told to give him benedryl and rub cortaid on it. It didn't help. A week later, the rash grew to both legs, and just a little on his arms. So, I took him back and she advised me to treat him for scabies.

I'm not sure if this is scabies. We treated him, and ourselves, washed everything, etc... rash is still there (it's only been 2 days). I looked online at images of scabies rashes and it doesn't look quite the same. it's not on his hands or feet. He's only scratching the orignal site. Plus, it's been over a month, and hubby & I, and his sitter/ her kids don't show signs of scabies.
We've been taking him outside a lot, could it be from our grass/lawn? Anyone else go through this? Please help!

I forgot.. also, if it was scabies, how long do the bumps take to go away after treatent? I guess I was silly to think they would have been gone by morning.

I've worked with kids in a school program, where we had several outbreaks of scabies. The rashes that the children had ranged from small red dots to large blisters that looked like they were filled with black fluid. ALL of the rashes were accompanied by burrow marks, where the mites burrowed through the skin to settle in.

It doesn't have to be on your hands and feet. Those are just the most likely places they're found.

I'm not sure I've ever met anyone who's contracted the mites from a scrape before, but I'm sure anything is possible. There's a greater possibility, however, that your son came in contact with someone at the park who had it. (Did anyone touch his knee after it was scraped?) Scabies is USUALLY contracted through skin to skin contact with an infested person.

I worked in close proximity to--and had contact with--the kids in my class who had scabies and I never caught it.

Though the treatments kill the mites very quickly, it can take weeks for the rash and itching to go away completely.

maybe eczema certain rashes can last up to months. ask to be referred to a dermatologist.

Scabies look more like pimples or bites and are very itchy and very contagious so that's probably not it.
