Valtrex to treat genital warts?

I have HVP and have been experiencing stinging and itching in the sphincter and anal crevice. I was at first told that this might be pinworms, but later told it is due to my HPV. However, the nurse practitioner presribed Valtrex to supress the outbreaks. What I'm reading shows that valtrex is a drug for herpes... Can anyone clarify this for me?

Hi there,

Yes, Valtrex is a drug used for herpes. Valtrex Oral is used to treat the following:
Shingles, Genital Herpes, Recurrent Genital Herpes, Prevent Recurrent Herpes Simplex Infection, Cold Sore

Valtrex Oral may also be used to treat:
Prevent Shingles in Patients Without a Normal Immune System

With regards to HPV, the following medications can be applied to the affected area (topical treatment) at home:
Imiquimod (Aldara)
Podofilox lotion or gel (Condylox)
Imiquimod and podofilox appear to be the most effective medication options that can be applied at home. Read the instructions carefully before using these medications.

Medications applied by your health professional include:
Podophyllin resin (Podofin).
Intralesional (injected into wart lesion) interferon.
Fluorouracil (Efudex, Fluoroplex).
Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) or bichloroacetic acid (BCA).

Cheers.

yeah, it is a drug for herpes. go back and tell your doctor. I do not think that the drug will work on HPV. did they do the scoth tape test to rule out pin worms? does the itching usually occur at night. if this is true then you still might have pin worms.

Valtrex is not prescribed for genital warts.
It is prescribed for oral and genital herpes etc.
This is definitely not a HPV medication. It is a HSV medication.
HPV (Humanpapilloma Virus) are the warts and HSV is the Herpes Simplex Virus.

Valtrex can be used for several other Herpes Strains strains as well, and it is an anti-viral for them.

It is definitely not for HPV.
