I'm 37 weeks and want to induce labor myself... is it safe? |
I'm 37 weeks and i want to try to induce labor myself. My boyfriend lives in another state and will be here Tuesday but only for a few days. I have heard that sex can help but i started bleeding at 7 mo from having sex and i had to have 3 shots to stop my contractions, ( that i couldn't feel at all.) I was put on pelvic rest and just asked yesterday if it was okay to have sex again. She said yes but it wasn't MY doc. It was the nurse practitioner, my doc wasn't there. I want to induce now to make sure my boyfriend is here. Is it too early? If not what works. Due date March 25th P.s. I'm dialated to 1 and my doc says i won't make it to my due date. The baby will come when it is ready. You should not self induce. This has the potential of being dangerous. If you are well past your due date then it is your doctors decision to induce. try walking, this usually works- best bet is the mall..it is climate controlled and you dont realize how much you really do. omg thats so totally dangerous especially since you've had a premature labour scare already...omg surely your childs health is more important then whos there to watch....whoever the one was who said yes should be shot :) If you had past problems I would wait until you could see your regular doctor. I have been told from my Dr sex is a good way to induce. Is there any way you can talk to your Dr before hand to make sure it is okay. Also, get out and walk..it also helps. Also a asmall tip..the reason the dr told me it helps to have sex to naturally induce labor is when a woman orgasms, it causes the uterus to contract and also a males sperm can thin out the cervix helping also. I am a mother of six kids. I have had every labor and delivery there is. And I lived to tell you about it. I have had to have those shots to stop my labor and then no sex, with bed rest that sucked!! If you want to have sex I say go for it but remember that your baby's lungs may not be developed enough yet to survive out side of your womb. I am not saying your baby will die but you need to take that into consideration. But if you and your boyfriend are willing to take that chance then have as much sex as you want. DONT TRY THE CASTOR OIL IT TASTE LIKE ****!!! Why would you even think of doing that? Way dangerous and techinically a week earlier then the docs want you to have the baby. The last couple weeks of developement the baby gains a lot of important wieght to help keep it warm and insulated once outside the womb. I'm sorry your bf won't be there but definitely not safe to induce labor yourself. Sex isn't full proof, it could just hurt or even rupture your membranes without starting labor. Then you could develop a very serious infection making a vaginal birth impossible and possibly harming your baby. If you want your bf to be there at the birth, you're gonna have to make arrangments to make it so. Inducing yourself in not the way to go. If you are already very dilated you might go into labor anyway. 37 weeks is considered to be full-term, so the baby would be fine but probably just small. It's worth a try, but don't expect it to be a sure thing. Good luck! im 37 wks pregnant myself and 3 cm dialated as of monday i have been losing my mucous plug since yesterday all im doing is walking around going up and down the stairs and im almost there nurse practitioners are also right if she said yes well then go ahead they are like doctors but try to get in contact with your doctor..good luck im due march 22 but my doc also told me i wont even make it til next friday...so just watch for that plug and water bag rupture thats what im doing let it come naturally... castor oil mixed with apple juice. One thing for sure that will bring on contractions is nipple stimulation. If you try it you will see what I mean---you will get a contraction every time! Whether it is safe for you to do that or not---whether it will stress the baby out too much---I don't know but I would be careful. I tried it and it brought contractions on but it did not last and bring me into real labor. Some of my friends tried it when they wanted their babies to come early for particular reasons like their hubby was on vacation or whatever, and it did work for them. I have also heard that castor oil will bring labor on as well. the person "purp" is full of s**t! i know because i AM a DOCTOR, every pregnancy is different and your NP probably wouldn't tell to if it wasn't okay. but... if it makes you feel better call your DOCTOR and refuse to speak with anyone but your doctor and ask them. good luck! |
