Help! What are you supposed to do when your pap exam is more painful and humiliating than you've had before?

The nurse practitioner was rude, rough, and oherwise had zero bedside manner. I wasn't given the opportunity to discuss any problems I've been experiencing nor any stress I was feeling at that appoinment. She was very rough, didn't talk me through anything, and left me with more questions than answers. Furthermore, I was in pain the rest of the same and following day. Now I think I've developed a yeast infection. It wasn't my first pap but it was my first time in a new office. I'm still upset and am still at a loss of what to do. Can anybody help or offer advice? Consolation even?

offers much consolation. thta sounds horrific!! my suggestion if its possible is to go somewhere eles, making sure you explin the situation. I am sure they will treat yu as you should be treated. with kindess and repspect.

the pain thing should also not happen!! discomfort yes, pain no. i would actually make a formal complaint

and get ur doc to give you somehting for the yeast infect... or go to the chemist and get somehting urself and eat natuarl robiotic greek yogurt (can also be used 'up there' to help fight the yeast

call the office and complain

call and complain, and next time you go, make sure to request someone else. Possibly you should make an appointment with a doctor at the clinic to get your questions answered, and at that time, you could mention the NP's rude behavior and horrible bedside mannor.

You need to call the Practice Manager and explain what has happened to you. This is really serious - imagine if it had been your first time and it put you off ever going back, putting you at potential risk of cervical cancer. Perhaps she was having an off-day and she's generally not so unpleasant, but she needs to know how she has affected you - she's a woman too and she should have some empathy here. I'm sorry you've had such an awful experience - next time you are due a pap smear, you are totally within your rights to request a different nurse.

Tell the doctor or call him..If you want to remain CONFIDENTIAL YOU WILL HAVE TO TELL HIM...That was awful the B---h!!! You were in pain the rest of the day...Now that is NOT normal!!!..Or just call the office; report her and if she doesn't change her ways she will eventually be fired!!!

I would call the office and complain as well as write a letter (not an e-mail) of complaint against the NP. You will probably get a better response to a letter than with a telephone call because you have a paper trail. Next time go to some other Doctors office. Ask your friends for recommendations of who they go to. In your letter state that you are considering going to a different Dr.

Get a different doctor. Same thing happened to me before. The doctor was really rude and rough with me. She never even told me about any concerns or anything just perscribed me meds and let another nurse explain them to me. Your paying for it so find someone you like. I've heard that men are a lot gentler. I've always just stuck with women so it wont be as uncomfortable. If you go back to the same clinic just tell them you don't want that doctor. You could also call and complain..
Good Luck

Aww, I totally sympathize. I always dread pap tests, but a good gynocologist can make it seem like a piece of cake. This CLEARLY was not a good gyno AT ALL. Is there any way for you to put in a complaint about her? If she's not a good doctor, someone needs to know and she really needs to work on her skills before she makes more patients feel uncomfortable. Also, I know you probably know this already, but make sure you find a NEW gyno asap!!! Don't return to her for anymore discomfort!

Sorry you had to go through that!
Goodluck

wow if anything u should feel really comfortable going to an appointment like that. I would definitly call and file a complaint with the office. That is not right at all. Good luck!

You can complain directly to the practise which is what I would do and to your local primary care trust who can help you through this .It is totally unacceptable for someone to treat you like this .It is recommended that someone be present whenever you have an intimate examination for this reason. I don't mean someone watching..someone in the room is enough.
Check out the nhs direct web site if your unsure how to complain. In the meantime change your GP.You do not have to provide a reason why.
