What medical/nursing specialties involve medical nutrition therapy and nutrition consulting? |
Any input from a doctor, nurse or nurse practitioner would be of help. I love nutrition but dont plan on becoming a dietitian. There is actually no specific medical/nursing nutritional therapy subspecialty. Both professions receive basic health sciences, including nutrition (mostly therapeutic nutrition, dealing with nutritional adjuncts for treating diseases). There is, however a specialty that deals with weight-management for obese; bariatric medicine/nursing deals with management of obese conditions. In this setting healthcare professionals receive additional training post-licensure. Additionally, if you're interested in specializing in nutrition as a nurse or physician, you may be able to obtain a position as a consulting nurse for places like Lindora, they have RN's that are specially trained for these areas. Good luck with your endeavors!!! |
