Is any one else wondering where have all the doctors gone i am sick of nurse practitioners?

when it cost up to 150 for an appt i think we should at least see a doctor befor the name any one else agree?

The insurance companies (both medical insurance and especially malpractice insurance) are making it so it is not practical... when you have to spend THAT MUCH money and time to become a Dr, the payoff isn't there any more... you can make it and more doing other things.

sorry i disagree. i have been seeing an np for almost 10 years now and she is better than my primary dr anyday.

Absolutely not. Nurse practitioners are every bit as capable of providing your medical care. But I'll admit to bias, having worked with them and been to nursing school, I'm well aware of the professional requirements and capacities of NPs. Many have expert knowledge in their fields, are allowed to make diagnoses and write prescriptions, and nurses (in my opinion) are employed in a more caring-oriented and caring-focused practice than the physical-body-oriented physicians. Nurses should by profession offer more holistic, enlightened care to their patients. If anything, you deserve to be treated by a nurse all the time, not just when you're in a hospital.
Sorry if I seem a bit fired up -- as a nurse, I have a real problem with anyone devaluing nursing care by saying incisive things like "we deserve a doctor for the money we pay." Insurance companies, state and federal governments all agree nurse practitioners are capable primary care specialists. If you need more information on what nurse practitioners are really about, see the links below.

Thank you, apologies if this came off over the top. We nurses love what we do, and we're always being given second-shaft to doctors.

Get a midwife..

I hate doctors they never listen and always assume. atleast nurse practitioners listen to me when I talk to them. My children see a NP and I love them.
