How much does a Nursing Practitioner get paid and is it a good job? Of course it's a good profession but all you are is a glorified doctor and you have went to school for almost as much time! NPs cannot usually prescribe narcotics and controlled substances, but this depends on the state they work in. They should not prescribe a drug that they are not familiar with or is for a complex... The real answer is that it varies from doc to doc.
