Are Certified Nurse Midwives considered Nurse Practitioners? |
How do you go about becoming a CNM? Is this the only field of nursing that can deliever babies? And if not, is this the highest field of nursing to do so? I would love to hear from a CNM if possible. Thanks so much! In my opinion, yes CNM's are considered Nurse Practitioners because they are both RN's with advanced training-master's degrees. That is also by definition. First get a bachelor's degree in nursing. Then get a master's degree in nurse midwifery. No, this is not the only field in nursing that deliver's babies. You can specialize with your bachelor of nursing degree and work in labor and delivery. If you want to work with kids and babies in particular as a RN you can work in the NICU-neonatal intensive care unit or in Pediatrics. Another route could be getting your masters degree in nursing to become a nurse practioner called a neonatal nurse practitioner or a pediatric nurse practitioner. To be direct just on straight delivering babies, yes CNM's are the highest in nursing to deliver babies, but remember CNM's also focus much on the care of the mother mostly which is why they deliver the babies, but usually a doctor or specialized nurse will care for the babies if there are any problems. I hope I have helped and nursing is a great career any way you choose to go! no not even close. no, they are different titles and different areas of study and specialize in different areas. |
