What sets psychiatric nurse practitioners apart from just a lay person?

Two judges from SSA disagree on if psychiatric nurse practitioners have any more clout in court on their chosen subject than just a comman lay person---I work for a lawyer who wants to prove that they are professionals, and should be seen as so by the SSA. Can anyone help me find the facts and doc. to back it up

I am perplexed by your question! You are asking if a person who has masters degree ( nurse practitioners have masters degrees ) in psychology has more knowledge in that field than a lay person. You answered your own question! Are you looking for specific facts, and if so, what are they?

your question

Psychiatric nurse practitioners are able to diagnose, and treat psychiatric disorders with medication, and also provide case management for those patients. They work closely with psychiatrists. Any nurse practitioner must have at least a master's degree, have completed an internship in behavioral medicine, and taken a qualifying examination. I suggest you contact the American Nurse's Association for definitive guidelines and requirements for certification.
