Which is the PDA to buy for a nurse practitioner?

Which is the PDA to buy for a nurse practitioner?

I usually recommend the Dell Axim, it is the most powerful for the best price. Check their web site, http://www.dell.com, and if you are shopping price, be sure to check both the personal home office and small business sites within Dell, sometimes one will be running a special when the other isn't.

Dell also has two stores on eBay - one for Dell.com selling new systems, and the other is for Dell Financial Services (DFS) for refurbished systems.

I love my Dell Axim (I'm actually on my third, I pass down my old ones to loved ones so I can get the newest one!)

Make sure you get her one with 801.11b and bluetooth so she can really get the most out of it! She's gonna love you!

well there are two types of pdas , pocket pcs and palm, pocket pcs tend to be more expensive and complex, whereas palms are a lot simpler and easier to use, also palms have 20 000 softwares or more to upgrade and improve the pda on anything, whereas pocket pcs have a few, you can check palmsource.com this has all the available softwares including medical type ones.

so my recomendation is to get a palm lifedrive, my reasons are.

its a reasonable price and is powerful enough and fast

its more secure than a pocket pc e.g dell or whatever because with a pocket pc when the battery runs out, you can lose all your information, whereas with a palm, you dont, and a pocket pc takes minutes to reset if you have to, a palm takes seconds

the lifedrive has wifi built in so you can access the network where you work or at home to make life easier

the lifedrive has bluetooth, this is useful for you in one thing, you can use bluetooth with a pc so that you can remote control your pc wirelessly.

the lifedrive has 4gb of memory built in, which is more than any other pda, it is very useful as you can put a huge amount of medical data.

hope this helped

I use an hp hx2755. This is no longer a first run model, but it is still available on the web. It runs between $450 and $500. I am not sure about the model numbers for subsequent models in this family. I like the biometric reader for security purposes. If you are going to keep your clinic notes, this is a good feature. It takes both CF and SD cards. And is blue tooth and WiFi Compatible. A colleague uses a Palm which has a much larger built in memory. I guess you should look and see what applications you will be using most and what platform they are compatible with. Sometimes I think it would be good to have both. Whatever you do, BE SURE to purchase a keyboard to go with your PDA. When you are traveling or want to record your thoughts quickly; if you are a fast typist, this is definitely the way to go. Also you might want to look into tablet computers as well. A lot of clinicians are moving in that direction.
