Are Family and General Practitioners the same thing as Nurse practitioner? No. No and yes....they are nurses who have done more schooling. They can write prescritions..they basically see common illnesses and leave the dr's time for more urgent and complicated issues. NO. FP's are MD's or DO's. Nurse Practitioner is the highest you can attain in nursing without having to complete med school/residency. They are close, but NP's are usually supervised in some way by a doctor. I'm told Nurse Practitioners do all the work. |
