Can a nurse practitioner be a women's health specialist?

What kind of duties do they have? I've heard they can function almost like a doctor...

I'm thinking, can they perform the same duties as a gyn?

NPs often specialize in Gynecology. They can not do surgery but they can function pretty closely to what a MD does for most routine stuff.

If you want to liken nurse practitioners to doctors, they're probably more comparable to GPs (general practitioners) working under specialists .

I know that in Alabama, nurse practitioners cannot prescribe medications on their own, but rather must use a doctor's prescription pad.
