Would a nurse practitioner be a good career choice?

I want to go into a career in health care, but I am uncertain which one to choose. I want a career that will be exciting and challenging. I also want a career that would allow me to work part time to raise children and still be able to make decent wages. I am kind of skittish about wounds, but I think I could give immunizations. Would a nurse be a good career choice?

I honestly don't think you could pick a better career

My mother is a nurse wanting to become a practitioner for a bit more of a challenge and she is still raising myself and my sister. She is was also very squeamish at the sight of blood and injury but it was a family practice so she took it up to earn some decent money. Now she can handle alot. I really think you will enjoy it. Nursing is a career that you will never get bored in and that you can take great pride in.

There is a desperate need for nurses. The great thing about nursing is there are so many career options from direct patient care, to administrative to teaching. Plus it offers the flexibility for your family situation should you chose direct patient care.

It's really up to you on what you want to do. You really can't rely on what people tell you. Just go with whatever you feel comfortable.

Registered Nurses (RN) can start at 40 an hour. On the Floors (ICU, Cardio, etc) they can get 60 and if you are willing to work shifts (late night) you can get 80. So I say go for the 4 year degree. Nurse practioners dont make much more than the counter jockeys at Tim Hortons....so its a real waste of time and effort to get that degree, y'know?

I don't think so, because part time work doesn't come with any benefits. Also, if you're skittish about anything like wounds, blood, needles, human bodily functions - you'll be unhappy. Nursing is highly stressful and insurance companies and companies who own hospitals treat them poorly. Nurse practitioners also require as much education as a doctor, so why not think about other options?

Yes a nurse practitioner is a good job but why not go on and become a dentist and you can set your own hours and not have to answer to anyone. my dentist works three days a week and answers to no one. she is a very good dentist and you could become one just as good if you wanted to. It would not take very much more schooling to be a dentist too.
