Should I leave my bank job to work at a nursing home?

$4 decrease in salary. $1m increase in sanity.

but if it were me.....i would rather count money or do paper work than work with old people.....i have done it and i didnt like it much

i know that i will probably get critisized for what im gonna say here....but.....in some cases....you may have to wash them, clean them....and what could be worse than that, is that if they crap all over themselves cause they cant make it to the bathroom or in some rare cases you get the ones that just dont want to or cant

then there could be the one where your doing you normal everyday thing with them...then they kick the bucket...right there in front of you....that is something that will bother you for awhile


but its your choice.....if you like to switch your job....go for it

if that is want you want then go for it. Better for you in the long run

Never mind the money, it all boils down to weather or not you like the work. Peace of mind and enjoyment of the job are the biggest factors, money can't buy these. Go where your heart tells you to go and you will find contentment.

Have you ever worked in a nursing home (especially a locked ward for the really demented ppl)? I am not sure you'd find the working conditions particularly good. You didn't say what you didn't like about the bank job. Do you have a mean boss? The decision is up to you but be sure that you have some idea of what you are getting into. Just voting for a change, any change, can be risky. You might end up in a low paying job with bad working conditions.

I understand the reasoning behind your decision, however, you have to be certain you are of a mind to 'give care' to those who are unable to get around by themselves in some instances, feed them, bathe them, take them from one spot to another - in general, be their hands and feet.

You'll be leaving one service job for another - the first is driving you insane and the second is greatly demanding in other areas. Please consider well!

I think sanity is definitely more important. I would just add that you work on a long term plan rather than just leave to work at a nursing home with no game plan. You wouldn't want something that seems easier initially to end up being a dead-end street.

Me thinks that you assume too much. Nothing sane about working at a nursing home. It has expectations and issues that are inherent in and of itself. If you can not find peace within your self then you can expect termoil to follow you no matter where you go. Remember you are the common denomonater in what ever you do. The only thing you have control over is how "you react" to situations. It is not enough to think positively you have to do positive things. You may be burned out with what you currently do. You need to asses why this may be so and do things differently.

I used to work in nursing homes. Sound easy but by far not a easy job. You have to deal with lifting people, cleaning diapers, changing there bedding when they make a mess. Hand feeding them. Bathing is not a easy job to do either if they are large or cant move very well. I gave them medication as well. Not sure if you place will do that.

Its a lot of work and I feel people should be paid a lot more for doing it.

Its up to you but working at a bank I would think would be a lot easier!!
