For stay at home moms?

If stay at home moms could get payed for what they do(short order cooking, housework, nursing, teaching,
referee/mediator,etc)what's your opinion on the salary or per hr. wage?
any backup info?

i read an article recently that combined all the different jobs a stay at home mom does and based on the number of hours an avg stay at home does these jobs. the article estimates the job is worth about 114K a year. And, if the mom works in addition to doing all the housework etc, then her house duties are worth about 85K in addition to her other salary from work.

not enough money in the world. after all each of those jobs independently make at least minimum wage

over 1million !!!!!!!

who would pay you? if those things need to be done than why would a MOTHER get paid for them? You can split the chores between someone like the rest of your family or your husband.

At least $50.00/hr

130,000 a year at-least.

Stay at home dad here, it's getting old... but hanging in there.
I feel for you all :)

I'd say about $1,000 or more an hour, we have the hardest jobs in the world....way underpaid.....but well worth it..God bless

The Chicago Tribune ran a story on this recently. I believe the figure they came up with somewhere around $137,000 a year.

We'd be payed higher than MOST others...

I would say hrly pay vs salary, I would take salary, casue well your gonna put in overtime reguardless....I would say we were probley making around 140,000 a year....

there isn't enough money in the world to pay women for what we do in a day.

i am a stay at home mom i think we should a $10.00 a hr for all the work we do . cooking, housework, and nursing

Hmm, good questions.

Daycare is usually $75-$100/wk per child.

3 meals a day...well, you could take the gov't reimbursement numbers and say $32/day. That is supposed to be what it would otherwise cost you to eat out. ($160)

Cleaning people usually get paid $50 per visit, normally once a week. I would bump that up to $100/wk for continuous cleaning

Laundry is a bit tougher, I would say $7/load and the average is supposedly 8 loads per week. ($56)

So, I would say a MINIMUM wage for a stay at home mom should be $9.75/hour for one child.

But WOW, I expected those numbers to add up to much more than that. Personally, I would have to include hazard pay in there somewhere (I have 3 young boys).

And, of course, you can never put a price on having a mom at home to care for a child instead of the child going to daycare.

There was a study done recently by Salary.com that broke out the different "jobs" a stay-at-home mom (chef, CEO, maid, etc.) and the amount of time spent doing each of them. It also included overtime pay. They calculated an annual income of US$134,121. Personally, I think this calculation has some serious flaws (eg: the salary is heavily influenced by the inclusion of CEO role; overtime pay is given for jobs which are generally exempt from overtime, like CEO and psychologist; etc), but it's an interesting starting point for discussion, I guess.

I thnk that we should get over 150,000 a year.

Check out this site, it will tell you how much you would get paid if you did all the same jobs outside the home.

Im a stay at home mom of 1. I dont think I would want money for what I do. I love taking care of my son and my husband and I enjoy being at home with my son. I wouldnt change that because the time Im getting to spend with him now when he's little, I cherish. That said, I wouldnt mind a little more appreciation and pampering for myself...Could we get paid with hugs and kisses and thank you's?? (and maybe a spa day once a week?) Sometimes when I feel overworked and unappreciated I just look at my son and see how happy he is to be with me, the smile on his little face is worth more than any amount of money in the world. (Kudos to all the other hardworking stay at home moms!!! Hang in there)

$130,000

Let's see... personal chefs get paid the big bucks- probably 20 bucks an hour. Housekeepers probably 10 dollars an hour, nursing probably 20 an hour, chauffeurs about 20 an hour, nannys make at least 10, usually 15 an hour. Then there's the finances so there's the accountant making about 30 an hour, tutors make about 15 an hour, and the list could go on and on. Now, if you average all those you get 17.50 an hour, but lets face it- mom's deserve more than that- how about 25 an hour because of all the multi tasking and things I didn't include. Besides mother's day and our birthday, we are either doing our job as a mom or we're on call as a mom every hour of every day. So, say we get up at 6:30 and go to bed at 10:30. That's a 16 hour day, right? and that's the norm, usually, but I'll even round it down to a 15 hour day. So 15 hours a day, 363 day out of the year (minus our birthday and mother's day- like that even happens anyway) works out to 5445 hours per year. And, at 25 bucks an hour that comes to 136K a year. You like that! We should all be getting paid 136K a year!

79.75 an hour without including health and retirement benefits....
seems fair ... only 9 to 5 and no weekends. hour for lunch and 6 coffee breaks
