Nurse or midwife?

which one is better in terms of salary, work, etc..etc

nurse

I am guessing nurse because they are specially trained and do more than just delivering babies.

where are you and what are the conditions there?

In much of the US, nurse is likely better because nurses do not have to carry their own malpractice insurance, which midwives may have to do.

Malpractice insurance in any field connected with births becomes more costly each year you are in business. This is because the cumulative number of children you've birthed increases each year and the premioum is partly related to total number of potential families who could file suit against you. [I didn't say it was logical or even right -- it is how it is.]

I would say nurse. An RN has to be well-schooled to find a nursing job, but there are many, many opportunities.

Here is a good site to reseach pretty much all that you are asking:

RNs:

Midwives: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midwife#Dir...

Salaries for both:

First off, midwives ARE nurses who have received specialized training (post graduate training) in the care of pregnant women/perinatology/care of the newborn. Salaries vary but can be high because midwives are so specialized. They work alongside physicians or independent of them depending on what area of the country you are in.
Nurses are responsible for the day to day care of patients in the hospital/clinic where they work. Nursing salaries vary from state to state, as do their work schedules. The nurses I work with work 3 12 hour shifts per week. And they make over 60K per year. Midwives probably make double that figure.
