Returning to Nursing after a 3 year break. How will this affect my salary?

I have been a RGN for 23years and have been a E grade for in excess of 10 years. Now I am returning to work after a break and because of the Agenda for change have been placed on the pay scale at @ a top level D grade. Is this right - it appear it will take me @ 5 years to catch up financially and I may appeal. Whats your experience - advice appreciated.
Luv J x

D, E grades etc don't exist anymore. The current banding has nothing to do with the old pay scales, everything was reassessed from scratch. You have to forget all the previous pay scale stuff.
What banding are you on? 5? The banding is much broader than the old pay scales and with KSF much easier to step up between bands.
I must say AfC banding caused a lot of people to effectively take a pay cut. They are supposed to take experience and qualifications that are needed for your role into account. Your career break will effect this. Check your job description. What about your KSF, how does that tie in with your banding?
I assume you're in a union, go to your rep or check the banding on their website. You can also approach the AfC office at your trust for advice.
Experience at my PCT shows that appeals were mostly turned down, especially with trusts trying to save money and making cuts. Good Luck.

I don't understand much of what you said because I don't know much about nursing. Since there is such a shortage in nurses, I would think they would give you a competitive salary.
