Why do MPs treat policemen, teachers and nurses with such distain? |
Policemen are now in a dispute over pay because the government is refusing to implement a 2.5% pay increase backdated to September. This effectively reduces the rise to 1.9%. The same happened when the nurses got theirs. The MPs are trying to say that they are attempting to put a brake on pay increases...fair enough, you may say...until it transpires that they intend to implement their own payrise (probably 20%) in one go. They do this every year, tell nurses, teachers and police that they must stay at a sub 3% pay rise while awarding themselves around 20%(not counting expenses). Many of their expenses alone is more than a nurse's salary. Sorry, I meant disdain...I'd posted before I realized the mistake...YA won't let you correct it. MPs are even greedier than you suggest. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/polit... Why do they get away with it? Because the voters LET them get away with it. sad- but exactly the same here in ireland- we are dealing with a hiring freeze because the HSE is 'overspent', so i am doing the job of 2 for no extra cash. last year nurses went on strike ( while still ensuring patients were cared for ) and got nothing (well an hour and half reduction in hours to be implemented ?next year). meanwhile the leader gave himself a 鈧?8,000 pay rise, then had the cheek to tell people it was time to 'tighten their belts' They get away with their ridiculous pay rises because they themselves debate whether to award themselves a pay rise or not. I have always said that an independant body should decide an MPs pay rise. They also snub the police, Nurses, and teachers because they exploit their dedication to their work. |
