What to say in job interview when asked about salary/?

I have a job interview. They will ask me what I think I should be making or they may ask what I currently make. I don't know what the position pays, and I don't want to come in lower than what I might deserve. I have told them in the first interview that I believe Nurses are paid according to a scale based on number of years working as a nurse and educational background. If I say $31 and hour that would be a little more than what I am making but I don't want to out price myself either. How should I handle a salary type question?

You should let them know that your salary is negotiable depending on the entire compensation package. Typically one should look to go at least 5% over their current comp, but do remember to factor in benefits. Benefits typically total up to approximately 35% of a person's monetary compensation. Research the average pay for the same job in that area and industry before you say anything. Good luck to you

Tell them that it depends on the entire benefit package but as a ballpark figure, you are looking for something in the $30 per hour range.

research the position . a good idea is to take what you earn now , and ask for maybe 5-10 % more

I like the truth. If you are asked what you ae curently making, why lie? It could be verified via background check or employment verification. If you are asked what your ideal salary is stick with a range, it's a safe answer in an initial interview. In an interview once my answer was, "I am much more interested in the opportunity that this position offers me than in salary". The salary offer was about $10,000 lower than what it should have been but I was able to negotiate up to a comfortable level for me. Make sure that you are also doing your research to see what the going rate is for your position; www.salary.com is a good site. Good luck!

You should tell them that you could not take less than x dollars per hour, but you would prefer y dollars per hour.

Hope that helps!
