3 questions regarding braces?

I got my braces today and they hurt... what can I do to not think of it or be able to sleep tonight?

2nd the orthodonic assistant did EVERYTHING... put the braces tighten them and send me home... I saw the dentist for like 8 minutes... I did no think of any question when I was with him... but Inow I'm like wtf? the nurse did the doctor's work... is that common?

my botton and my top teeth are not align.... when would you need a jaw surgey?
I would call the dentist but is 50 dollar for a 10 minute call and I can ask him what I want.. or wait 6 weeks to see him agian.

thanks

for the first question just have your mind on something else do something with ur hands like text, play a game or whatever /also maybe listen to music

2nd/it is common it shouldnt be a problem though to call them up if they hurt and if they are cutting ur mouth make sure to put on wax it is a lifesaver !

no you dont need jaw surgery they will give you rubberbands and that aligns ur jaw

I always forget questions I have to and I've had mine for a little over a year and a half.

You can get some orajel and put them on your gums. Also sometimes it made my teeth feel better if I gently tug at the wire or push my tongue against my teeth.

Other than that you can try Ibuprofen (sp?) or aspirin or something. Also try not to eat foods that are hard because it makes your teeth hurt more after you're done eating.

And yes the nurse people normally do the wire changing and stuff.

You may not need surgery for your top and bottom teeth to be aligned. You'd be amazed at what braces can do for you. =]

1) you can watch tv, play cards, play video games, anything to keep your brain active

2) yes it is common, they are called dental assistants and they do the work and the dentist checks it.

3) you do not need jaw surgury, you will either get rubberbands or metal springs depending on your own personal circumstances

1: people will tell you pain killers, but that is not the only thing. hot things:i had a bath, then had hot soup, them had hot herb tea. this really helped!!!

2: this is very normal. i never see the actual head guy because he is sooo busy. can you imagine being him? or her? dont worry about it. in the end, you really wont care who did it. and what questions do you have? there arent tooo many.

3: before i got braces, my jaw was perfectly alignd. after i got braces, i thought that i would need surgery too. it is all part of the process. when they are moving your teeth, your jaw is not used to it, so it moves in funky ways. when your teeth are straight, and staying in the same position, then your jaw will mellow out.

dont worry about the braces! i have had mine for 2 years and i get them off in may!!!! wow i really cant wait. my teeth were about the worst monsters you could imagine, and now they are perfect! the nurses or head people can work wonders! good luck. the first few days and nights are the worst, believe me!lots of love

p.s plz plz plz pick best answer because this took tooo long!

1. take some motrin it worked for me

2. it is normal basiclly the doc just checks the work of the nurse

3. no they will give you what they call a pallette expander ( i have one now) and there will be a key someone will turn and it stretches your mouth every time. when the key is turned it is a lot of pressure and it is uncomfortable but it is not pain!

hope this helps
